Since 1484
Quinta da Rede, located in the parish of Santa Cristina, has its oldest historical records dating back to 1484, making it part of the Douro Wine Region even before the demarcation of 1756, carried out by Marquês de Pombal under authorization of king D. José I.
The vineyard overlooks the Douro River, on its right bank, between Mesão Frio and Régua, at an altitude between 90 and 140 meters. It is recognized for being the place where fishing nets (the meaning of Rede) were once extended from one bank to the other of the Douro River, long before the construction of the dams that altered its natural course.
Its magnificent vineyards landscape is part of the Douro area, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

In 1995 Quinta da Rede was acquired by José da Fonseca Alves, its current owner, who carried out the restructuring of the entire vineyard. Rehabilitation work was carried out on the entire wine-growing heritage and a large part of the vineyard was replanted, taking advantage of only a few vines due to their age.
In 2008 the first wines with the label “Quinta da Rede” were launched on the market, the owner emphasizes that his desire was to transmit the historic legacy of the vineyard in his products, as wines were already produced there long before the creation of the Douro Demarcated Region, and that, on the other hand, he was born and raised close to it.
